Farmville Fanatic?

And you thought that DS games got addictive, wait till you read this: Farmville debt, by a 12 year old boy

There are millions of users of Farmville on Facebook and although this is a pretty old Mashable blog post I thought it worked really well on my blog right now, as I’m going to blog about 2 games I have been playing pretty seriously recently, WITHOUT using REAL money.

Either you love it or you hate it but Farmville has become pretty successful over the duration of its life so far. The Zynga game is all about growing, collecting and harvesting the many delightful things that you aquire throughout your playing time with the game.

BUT, HOW ON EARTH can someone get that addicted to rack up a £900 bill through the use of his own debit card and then his mothers!!! Surely his mother should have realised sooner when over £600 went missing out her account?

This just proves how inexperienced that mothers are to children using these games, but the worrying factor is how these kids can obtain the debit/credit cards so easily without being caught! His mothers worry is stated here in the online version of the Guardian newspaper.

He wont be playing that game anymore!

Freeloader Pico

If you are into gaming for the DS/DSi and using an iPod/iPhone on the move then You will LOVE this : A solar cell from solartechnology.co.uk called the Freeloader Pico.

I have often been stuck somewhere when I really want to ring home or such for a lift, and I have forgotten that I have not charged my essential item….the phone!

I have a Sony phone and this solar panel has different tips supplied to make your life easier… So I was glad to find that the Sony Ericsson was one of the adaptors included in the units box, for £14.99 in Robert Dyas or £16.99 online at manufacturers website. The Pico will charge devices that are up to 5V and you can use your original USB sync cables etc to plug your devices in. The adaptors also supplied are Nokia and Samsung but you can also order other adaptors to fit your device. The mini USB adaptor will fit into Motorola, Blackberry and most other smartphones, sat-navs and Bluetooth headsets.

It will charge on a computer so that the battery inside is ready for days out, but it will take about 10 hours in the sun to fully charge. I have many ways of charging it as I can plug it into things when my PC isn’t on as I have other USB compatible things, so it would be worth you finding things in YOUR home that it will charge on (helpful hint: Nintendo Wii)

I can also charge my DSi with a already purchased lead from Tesco which I also like. I may now use my DSi much more as I don’t when I have my iPod with me 99.9% of the time.

I think this is an excellent addition to my tech-filled life, and hope to bring some more exciting and amazing things your way soon!

Mario: he’s part of MY family

I love to buy myself things and particularly when there is something of a limited number and when it is cheap! (I got the last one!)

I bought myself a gaming t-shirt yesterday that cost £8 celebrating Mario being founded since 1985 which makes him older than me!

I have seen the advert on tv recently about the 25th aniversary which has @wossy in it plus other Nintendo fans and I wanted to get something to commemorate it so I bought this t-shirt:

DSHeaven - Ashley Williams

My App has entered the App store and id like to thank Ashley Williams for making it for me as I have not got a Mac.

The app is called DSHeaven and can be found on the app store or you can see it on your ipod/iphone by typing Ashley Williams OR DSHeaven.

I have got a few Twitter feeds in there as well as my Youtube feed and I would like it if you gave some feedback at any of the things you see.

Some reviews I put up will be Wii games too, as well as gaming news and techy stuff from around the world!

Please let me know if you like it!

iPhone/iPod, A Friend Indeed!

iPhone or iPod – they do the same thing but one makes phone calls. Simple, but the way I see it is that the range of Apple devices have taken the world by storm and with the newest – the iPhone 4 – it makes sure it remains one of the biggest entertainment consoles of the decade!

When mobile phones first came out they were big bulky things and you couldnt really put them in your pocket very easily. Soon times moved on and the mobile phone soon changed, getting smaller and smaller until it was small enough to fit in your purse (believe me some are!). Now phones are jam packed with super cool functions and applications that can do almost anything… Mobiles are not just mobiles anymore… They are super computers.

My first mobile had the likes of a simple snake game and if you are lucky you would get 5 minutes of fun out of it, but now phones these days can organise your entire life and be there for when you need a shoulder to cry on. Well not literally but imagine if it could…

The games and organising facilities are just some of the best on todays smartphones and I wouldnt be without my iPod – Its smooth rounded edges provide comfort and pleasure as you hold it and type to friends on Ebuddy or make notes on the iPod built in facilities.
My first organiser couldnt even go on the net, and it only had a few kilobytes of storage to work with! It’s true you know!

The iPhone was voted as best smartphone/gadget to own, by The Gadget Show in a tech awards episode of the popular Channel 5 programme. Not surprising really with all the different applications you can buy (and have for free).

Jason Bradbury uses all Apple things and now the iPad is out, nothing can stop him from indulging into the worlds finest touchscreen technology!

I think that iPods/iPhones are the next generation of fun and games that will one day be all you need to get you through your day!

Speech Recognition in Gaming

Speech Recognition hasn’t always been easy to get our hands on freely without having to buy software or download it…

Until Windows Vista came out you would simply have to rely on pathetic Microsoft Office speech detection and hope it would understand you. Windows Vista now has a tool called Speech Recognition that will allow you to use all of your favourite programs and games without a click of the mouse!

However you will need to train your computer to hear and understand you which takes 20 to 30 minutes, but once that is complete you will be writing documents and playing games with your voice in no time at all!

Here is a video that I made on my phone to show Solitaire using voice recognition with no mouse imput whatsoever! Sorry the movie isnt very great quality… I may do another one!

In fact as this speech recognition is so advanced, I have written this whole article with only using my voice!

Nintendo DSi – The Review!

The Nintendo DSi is the third model of the Nintendo DS platform, following Nintendo DS and Nintendo DS Lite. The DSi aims to bring more gamers to the market.

A new function with the microphone is the ability to change the pitch and the speed separately. You can replay sounds recorded as different styles…. as a bird, a robot, an electric fan, and musical instrument etc. You can access the sounds and mic application from the main menu.

Nintendo DSi has internal memory, just like Wii. You can choose to activate this data from the menu screen. You can also put an SD card into the machine as extra storage.

The DSi has a much nicer main screen and shows the battery level. The power button brings up the main menu, like on the Wii with the Home button. The power button works like a reset button too.

You can play all games on the system but unfortunately it still uses the old configuration for the playing over the internet…. WEP as apposed to WPA. The DSi has now the ability to hot swap game carts after getting to the main menu of the DSi.

The DSi camera can be used as a memory bank of photos throughout the day. So it may be really useful for the older generation, but also fun for the younger generation looking into the ‘can only capture this once’ moment.

The DSi now supports DSiWare that you can download and play on the console. You can save the games to the SD card. There are lots of games to look at and they use DSi points that you can get by buying and activating on the console.

The daddy of the DSi’s is the DSi XL which has a larger screen for older people.

There is a browser on the DSi for the internet, but I think that it is much better surfing the web on a PC as screen size is limited on a DSi.

I rate the DSi console 8/10 because of the lack of the WPA for games still, but maybe in future consoles they may rectify this!

I Jog, You Jog, Wii Jog!

Now I want to get more active and I think I found exactly the right thing to do it…

Enter the Wii Jog accessory, which works with the Nunchuck to give more than a leg stretch to your games!

It is used to make the Nunchuck compliant games more interactive as you have to actually run on the spot to make your character move anywhere. You must follow the instructions on the device booklet and move the joystick on the Nunchuck before you start to jog. When you stop jogging, no matter if you have the joystick out of normal position, your character will also come to a very abrupt halt!

A little while back Jason Bradbury tested out this gadget at the toy fair he went to….

I managed to actually put on a sweat as I used it for a long time. I found a game that worked with it called deBlob and it helps me more as I can stay put on things rather than fall off. The only problem is I cant use it against the clock on there but it is great for social gatherings and just a great piece of tech to have a laugh with! It will also work with Animal Crossing too which makes life easier.
The game will work with most of the Nunchuck controlled games and you can see Jason demonstrate it in the video above!

The Jog costs around £10 now and is available at many online retailers!
